27th May : Secca della Columbara - the wreck of the 'Ita'
Ustica's first wreck. A small freighter carrying marble blocks, which went down in 2005. Stern quite intact, but nothing much remains of the fittings in the wheelhour. Looks a little like the Giannis-D in the Red Sea, but a bit smaller. Some spectacular yellow anemone covered pinnacles a little further round the reef.

One of the great pier dives this. Imagine Swange Pier on a scale about 10 times bigger. Pier legs go down to 15m, and covered in Falbellina. Found another Octopus, and beyonf the Pier is a grotto, and slope covered in Roman pottery.

Six of us went diving on Saturday 4 August 2007, on HMS Pine - William Blackstone, Dan Clarke, Mark Brill, Zoe Diderich, Peter Kerrod and Simon Perse - and Tim Clarke helped cox the rib, who wanted to gain further experience coxing the boat. William Blackstone managed the dive, with Dan Clarke operating as Assistant Dive Manager, as part of their Dive Leader Course. We left the marina at 12:30 and arrived at the location for 13:00, giving us one hour to locate the wreck - as the coordinates in the local dive site book and the our club data differed - and drop a shot line. Mark and Zoe were the first pair in at 14:00. They kindly offered to proceed with a dive of 20 minutes to see if our location was correct and send up one marker buoy to confirm or a second to signify their ascent. I can confirm that the coordinates in the club satelite navigation system were correct. Dan and Peter were the second pair in - with Dan leading their pair - and once Mark and Zoe were safely back on the rib, William and Simon proceeded with their dive. William carried out some training - moving the shot weight an approximate distance of 5 metres and also recovered the shot with a lifting bag. At 16:00 we all headed back to the marina, cleaned the boat and headed home.
