Horsea Island Lake/Littlehampton : 6-7th May 2006

Marshall: Dave Fletcher: Horsea on Saturday and the RIB on Sunday
Saturday was a training day, and more members of the club joined on Sunday for a sea dive. This was the heaviest load we had yet put on the new engine, and at ten people, three twinsets, and a couple of extra tanks, it was about the limit the boat could take. She did get up on the plane, but we could not make 20 knots. Worth it though, for a great dive in the Mixon, with a very good tide giving at least 1.5 hours of reasonable slack water. 10m vis and 11 deg C water temperature. Dived the Mullberry off slack, but on such a tide as this, it was pretty diveable. Vis about 5m on that.

Horsea Island Lake : 20th May 2006

Marshall: Nick Watson: Horsea Island
A blown out RIB dive coused some of use to adjourn - undaunted - to Horsey for a spot of training. Jaques' description: "special activities for me: deployed an SMB, compass dive. - nature = now have a short film of a crab trying to open a mussel, incl of cracking sounds. not for the faint of heart. also saw an eel. wonderful."

Oban - Outer Hebrides : 20-26th May 2006

Marshall: Roz Fletcher: Hjalmar Bjorge
Our intention was to reach St Kilda, but a week of unsettled weather confined us to the shelter of the Hebrides. Our disappointment was offset by some excellent diving on these alternative sites, and by the comfort of the boat, which was seaworthy enough as a rescue vessel for the Norwegian fishing fleet, but was then bought by an American billionaire who fitted stabilisers! Mark the skipper is a fount of knowledge on the local wildlife, and the food was excellent. Sea temperature was in general 9 degrees, and uw visibility was between 5 and 10m.

Littlehampton : 16th September 2006

Marshall: Mike Maloney: Holborn Diver
Fine day, very little wind. Smooth ride out to wreck site (Position 50:38:959 N, 000:49:304W). Located wreck and put in a shot midships. Vis down but masses of fish here: pouting, Bib, and many Congers. Also Lobster and Crab seen. Wreck lies E-W. One group swam to stern arwa and could see the huge prop and rudder. Wreck is upside down on sea bed and well broken open. Hatch area quite plain to see, also boilers and anchor locker with chain. Very nice dive. Dive time 4.5 hours after HW Portsmouth on neaps. Vis bad on the Mulberry and only dived for one half hour due to early closure of Littlehampton Marina. Having a good dive team who all muck in makes rigging and cleaning up RIB before and after work so well. Enjoyabledays diving. Mike Maloney N.I.30.

27th September : Gabriel El Bint (North)
Dive south of Dahab in Egypt at Gabr-el Bint The site of a "Romeo and Juliet" style legend that tells of a girl who was pledged to marry to a much older man, refusing to do so. Her brother then killed her because he believed she brought dishonour to her familly. Her "true" love killed himself when he found her body on the shore. Landscape was rocky mountains set back 50 yards from beach, a rocky desert. The beach was narrow with a steep drop off making shore entry more difficult than normal.
