8 Pool sessions
7 hrs lectures
5 open water dives
Costs £380.50 (+ open water dives)
Diving is an amazing sport, giving you opportunities to explore and discover, travel and socialise.
During your course, you'll learn new skills and face new challenges -
gaining an internationally recognised qualification and a real sense of achievement.
Holborn is a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club, and our entry level course is called Ocean Diver.
Over 8 Weds evenings, you will learn buoyancy control, problem-solving and rescue skills. There are also 7 lectures to give you the
knowledge to dive safely.
Can everyone learn to dive?
Yes. If you are over 18, capable of swimming 200m of the pool and don't have a medical condition which would endanger you if you dived, you can do it!
Our branch trains young people between the ages of 12 and 18 to snorkel and experience scuba within the limits of the pool.
We welcome snorkelling and swimming (non-diving) members.

How long will it take?
8 weeks in the pool, plus 7 hours of lectures arranged at a mutually convenient time.
Once you complete the pool work and theory, you need to make a minimum of
5 assessed open water dives to demonstrate your skills. Open water means in the sea or a lake. There is an open water session at the end of each course.
Where do the open water dives take place?
You can choose to do your dives in the UK, or abroad. We run regular trips to Spain and the Red Sea.
How much will it cost?
The pool and theory part costs £380.50.
This price includes a year's membership of Holborn
- with access to the pool every Weds evening. It includes a year's membership of BSAC and a monthly diving magazine.
Most of the diving equipment used is loaned by the club and training materials are provided for you to keep.
Are there any extra costs?
The cost of the 5 open water dives to complete your qualification isn't included as it depends upon where and how you choose to do them.
Costs range from £15 per dive in the UK, to the cost of a holiday abroad.
