Come and Try SCUBA divesIf you come on a Try dive at Holborn SCUBA club, you will get your own personal instructor for an hour in a swimming pool. They will introduce you to the equipment at your own pace, and let you swim around underwater without coming up for air maybe for the first time in your life! At the end of the session your instructor will advise you on whether SCUBA could be a sport for you, and on your options if you want to take things further, and do a training course (see our advice on training to be a diver). We will provide the SCUBA equipment. We will also give you a mask and fins, but if you have any of your own that fit you, please bring them. Note that we wear a 'mask' and not 'goggles', and 'fins' and not 'flippers'. It's very important to get that right. And we've heard people mis-call them goggles and flippers deliberately so often that it stopped being funny in about 1968. Oh - and we breath air and not Oxygen. You may be standing around in the pool and not moving for part of the time, and so you might get cold. Bring an old T-shirt to wear. This not only keeps you a bit warmer, but it protects your skin from chafing on the equipment straps. If you wear contact lenses - especially if they are not the disposable kind - leave them off if you can, or tell your instructor if you cannot. The cost for all this life changing experience is a mere tenner, payable in advance. Cheques made payable to 'Holborn 130 BSAC' please. |
